Welcome to DangerDiplomat !

Dear Friends,

This will be a site and blog dedictated to examining the world of Danger Diplomacy - that is, the work of diplomats, consuls and colleagues in the realms of International Security, Disarmament, Humanitarian Action and Emergency Consular Services.  This is the second incarnation of the DangerDiplomat blog, previously having been with the Ning network.

I'm your host, Jesus "Gary" S. Domingo, Philippine Consul General and Minister with the Permanent Philippine Mission to the United Nations in Geneva. In the coming posts, I will introduce you to the work of the "Danger Community" in Geneva - the agencies and offices dealing with natural and man-made threats to the safety and well-being of humanity. We will also take a look at what we are doing in the Philippines and other countries in advancement of Danger Diplomacy.

On the Disarmament side, we have the UN Conference on Disarmament (CD), the UN Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) and the treaty regimes of the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW) (incl. Cluster Munitions, Unexploded Ordninance-UXO, Explosive Remnants of War-ERW), the Anti-Personnel Landmines Treaty (APLM or "Ottawa Treaty"), the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC), and the Geneva Declaration on Armed Violence and Development (GDAVD).

Now on the Humanitarian front, we have the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Assistance (OCHA), the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR), the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the UN Volunteers (UNV), the International Organization on Migration (IOM), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), and the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO).

We will also examine the work of Embassies, Missions and Consulates dealing with emergency services to nationals, and post security. I will also update you on two organizations which I am actively involved with, the Diplomatic Society of St. Gabriel and the Philippine White Helmets.

Thanks for dropping in !
